September 05 Still trying for that Law Enforcement JobHola everyone. So I gave it a whirl at Mount Crested Butte PD. I loved it there and had tons of fun during the interview process. I did way better on the police test thanks to some serious independent studying. That was one of my main hurdles. I did rotten on the physical agility test. A combination of high altitude and my tubby butt didn't mix so well. I rocked the house on my oral interview. I got a call back the next day from the Police Chief telling me that the only reason why I wasn't their number one was because of my agility. They REALLY want me to work for them and said they would hire me in January if they were able to get funding for another officer. He told me I was their second pick and would have been their primary (damn tubby butt of mine) but I needed to get into shape. THEN tonight, I got a call from Jack C. from the Crested Butte Marshall's Office. He said he had heard awesome comments from Mt CB about me and that they just kept going on and on about how awesome I was. Yeah, my ego shot up. He said I should keep them in mind if they had any openings. I was shocked that I was getting this phone call. I guess I did way better than I thought with everything (but my agility). SO, now I'm in power weight loss action and am trying to work on what I can do to pass that agility course in Mt CB. ARRRRGH!!!! SO FREAKIN CLOSE!!!!!! I am scheduled to test with the Gunnison PD on September 21st. I'd rather not work for them but a job is a job I guess. I REALLY liked Mt CB. Beggers can't be choosers right? DOH. August 25 PhotosHi all, I just thought I would let you know that I have a online photo album. Please feel free to take a look at some of my adventures I've had. Sometimes I take more photos that I do blogging. Take a look off and on at the album to see where I have been. THANKS!!! I listed the link to the left in the NOTHING SPECIFIC LIST. June 25 Denver PD Ride AlongAwesome! I did a ride-along with the Denver PD District 3 on Friday. It was sweet! I wish I could have gone longer but I had a stupid migraine that made me sick and I had to leave half way through the shift. I started at 1300 with a tour of their new building. Nice! I'm glad they were able to get a new building since their old one was WAY too small for that department. I learned a lot about how the big city runs it dispatch and how everyone takes calls. Officer B and I headed out at about 1520 once we found a patrol car that worked. There was some action going on with some guy that had kidnapped his 1 yr old kid and was a 4x felon aka BIG time wanted guy. The DPD Fugitive squad was hunting this guy with dogs and a helicopter. We decided to be the only available car to take calls since everyone else ran up that way to play with that incident.
Our first call was to act as back up for the animal officer. He had to give a crazy rich lady a loud noise complaint regarding her dogs. Man, she was crazy too. In the end, Officer B had to yank her out of her house for failure to comply and obstructing official business. We put her in the patrol car and finally got her to cooperate. It was like dealing with someone that was half aware of the world and the rest was in her world. Our next mission led us to some guy who complained about his window on his truck being broken by a rock flying off a truck. No luck there buddy. Moving on to a trespass with some slimy chick in the basement of someone's home. She was high and decided to crash at her b-friend's place. He was in jail and the roommates didn't want her there. Can't blame them there. Once we shooed her out we were off to a alarm call at a house. Once there we found a door open and the screen door torn. Officer B and his seargent went for a building search while I watched the doors. They came out and decided that the wind had blown open the door which had only been wired closed. Off to our next call for a domestic. Turned out to be a guy who had been in an argument with his g-friend. He had called wanting to keep himself in line since he almost hit her. Good guy. A little drunk but good. Off to another domestic which resulted in an arrest. Strange lady. Felt bad for the guy. It could have been a small harassment charge rather than a domestic but the way they kept attempting to describe what happened kept screwing them over.
After taking care of the domestic we had to head over to an apartment complex to give the camera to another officer. Officer A was dealing with an attempted suicide. Some guy had tried to kill himself with a gun loaded with bird shot and had missed thusly shooting the ceiling. Rolling our eyes at the human species we began to depart but had to assist another unit before getting out of the parking lot. They had pulled over a car and needed an extra set of eyes while they searched the car and placed the driver in custody. We babysat the passenger and then went on our way.
Our next order of business was to sit on a crime scene while the detectives finished up business to remove the body and clean up the mess. The guy had shot himself in the head which resulted in blowing off the back left side of his skull. The suicide was not all that messy since the dude had fallen with his head towards the small stream and had bled out into the water. Easy clean-up. All they did was pick up the big pieces and called in the fire department to hose the rest into the stream. That will make me think twice before I decide to cool off my feet in a stream especially in a city setting.
Found out who the suicide was on Sunday when it came out in the paper. My dad was looking at the news while eating breakfast and I recognized the photo as being the victim. In a sick and twisted way I was all excited. It was my first dead person (minus the cadaver I got to see while touring CSU when I was a biology major).
So I survived my ride-along and had tons of fun.
Came home after my car died on I-70. My sister loaned me hers until I can figure something out about mine. Now, to wrap things up, off to work! June 10 Manslaughter CRS 18-3-104(1)(a)So I woke up today feeling REALLY weak and tired. I just thought that it was because I didn't sleep well. Come to find out that was true to a certain extent. I got up and momentarily left to find some friends at Mocas. I got a smoothie and while I sat there waiting for people to show up, I still felt like shit. I came home, giving up on waiting for people due to how tired I was. When I walked into my apartment, I thought I could smell something funky. I was confused and thought it might be my trash since I had just tossed some organic products into the trash the night before. SO I took out my trash and cleaned up the kitchen. I opened my front door and bathroom window to get a cross breeze. After a bit I could still smell that funky odor. Then it dawned on me that it could be natural gas! But where the heck was it coming from? I don't have natural gas in my apartment. I know that natural gas keeps the boiler and the hot water tanks going in the basement. Then the thought came to mind that perhaps my neighbor had somehow turned on her gas stove minus the flame. GREEEAAAT! I began looking around my house and decided I was doomed since I have so many electronics running in my house. At any moment I could die! I went outside again and looked around. I came back in and noticed that the smell had actually gone away considerably. I decided to finish getting my stuff together to go to work. I came across a friend in the alley way who was heading to my neighbor's place. I decided it would be an opportune time to figure out what was really going on with the natural gas. My neighbor told me she had accidentally knocked on the gas to her stove when she got home from visiting my place. I got pretty pissed but kept my cool and left. Why was I pissed you asked? Well, my neighbor has a tendency to get plastered drunk (most of the time) which was her condition last night. I know this because she came over to my place last night to socialize after being rescued by my co-worker. She had gotten so drunk, she couldn't find her way home. When she came into my home, she reeked so badly, I thought I was sitting next to a pool of vodka. In my mind her alcohol problem has crossed the line to being dangerous and has put herself and others around her in danger of dying. So to sum up my story, I almost died of asphyxiation in my sleep AND my place and the surrounding area could have blown up because some selfish drunk. People's stupid solution to hiding from their problems by getting intoxicated, is on the top of the list of reasons I have a future in law enforcement unless they kill me first. Liquid Courage? My ass! Cowards. God damn it drunks piss the crap out of me sometimes. This time it has become serious personal. Do I live in fear now that I may not wake up in my own home, my sanctuary from the world? Manslaughter C.R.S. 18-3-104(1)(a) class 4 felony: "A person commits the crime of manslaughter if such person recklessly causes the death of another person". Now I just need to try to survive the night from the natural gas poisoning I got from the whole god damn ordeal. I feel so tired. June 06 Long Time No Write Okay, well dang. I suppose it has been WAY too long since I've composed here. I guess everyone is due for an update. SO much to say! First off, I headed off to the Otero Junior College Law Enforcement Academy (OJC LETA) January 7th. Due to the limited access to the internet via the college network I was unable to compose anything here which in the long run was probably a good idea. Most of my entries would have been ranting and complaining about how horrible and inmature my classmates were. I pray for those that passed that they live past their first five years of service. There were 15 of us in the beginning but two got arrested for having old warrants out for them. They had the balls to lie to the director of the academy as well. The rest of us made it through the class time with about 3 of them ditching classes they decided was a waste of their time. Scary. In the end only 8 of us made it to the POST test and passed. It took me by surprise that these kinds of people actually want to be cops. What do they think they will be representing? What do they think they will be doing? Scary. Lots of war stories about the academy but I'm not going to go into traumatizing detail. So at any rate, I passed the POST test and got a conditional certification. April 21 I played with the Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing organization. They were staying at the hotel I was at (I was forced to flee from my campus apartment due to one of my classmates/roommate psychologically snapping and attacking me. I kinda didn't want to get murdered in my sleep). I had fun with RMVR. They adopted me into their folds and let me play corner guard on the race track. My friends and family tagged along one day once they got into town for graduation. They got to wave the race flags. It was great. At least one good thing came out of attending that prison of an academy. I came home April 26th and began settling back into my life.
I pretty much jumped right back into the swing of things once I got back. I started Security again in two days after I got back. I did take a celebratory road trip through the Colorado Plateau since I had no outlet of celebrating passing my academy tests (Driving, Firearms and PPCT). I will probably compose a seperate entry for that adventure. So here I am. I need a new car. I need to get in with a law enforcement department. Mountain Clean lost their account with the bank which was my main hour maker so now I won't be getting much of a pay check from them. That throws a monkey wrench in my plans. I have medical bills I need to pay for (I chopped my finger and sliced a chunk off of it. Thankfully it grew back). I'm in a weird feeling place in life. Friends here are leaving. Those that are staying I feel weird around. One of which makes me nervous to be around or talk to which breaks my heart since she is one my of good friends here. It is odd. Lots more to share but at least that gets you up to speed. Many months have passed quickly and things in my life seem to move in slow motion while time races by. |
